HISTORY
& AIMS
Plato Academy,
which was founded in 1952, is an independent school that
actively engages children in their own learning and is
responsive to every child’s developmental needs. The
educational program at Plato Academy stems from the belief that
children gain a more thorough understanding of a subject if they
experience it holistically. Service learning lies at the core,
providing a springboard for knowledge and skill acquisition for
even the youngest of children.
FACULTY
Plato Academy
emphasizes hands-on learning geared to each child’s
developmental readiness. A glance around any of our classrooms
is evidence of all the ingenuity and effort our teachers put
into their work. Here, teachers are expected to be adaptable,
flexible and creative since they must always be responsive to
different learning styles. They are dedicated to supporting and
challenging a child as an individual as well as a member of a
group.
BEFORE
AND AFTER SCHOOL
As an additional
service to parents, children may arrive at school as early as
7:45 a.m. at no extra charge. At the end of the school day, they
may stay in a reasonably priced after school program until 6:00
p.m. participating in arts-and-crafts activities, games,
dramatic play and homework support.
GOVERNANCE
A Board of
Directors governs Plato Academy. We also have a PTO that engages
in creative activities that promote the philosophy of the
school.
STUDENT
BODY
At Plato Academy,
we are committed to enrolling a community of learners that is
socially, religiously, ethnically and economically diverse. The
school offers partial scholarships to families in need.
GRADUATE
PROFILES
Plato Academy has a
50-year tradition of achievement. The academic and personal
success of our past graduates suggests that our future graduates
will follow in the footsteps of the successful alumni before
them.
