A New School Year at Plato Academy: A Year to Learn, Grow, and Shine

There is something magical about the beginning of a new school year.

The hallways are filled with energy, and our teachers and students have returned with new ideas, new goals, and new possibilities.

Every year, as I watch our students walk through the doors of Plato Academy, I am reminded of why we do what we do.

We want children to love coming to school and to love learning.

That may sound simple, but it is at the heart of everything we believe.

As you know, at Plato, learning is not about simply memorizing information or getting the right answer. It is about being curious, asking questions, making connections, solving problems, creating, collaborating, and discovering the joy of figuring something out.

Sometimes learning happens through a lesson. Sometimes it happens through a project, a conversation, a math game, a book, a piece of music, or even a mistake. And we believe mistakes are important. They are opportunities to think again, try again, and grow.

One of the greatest privileges of being an educator is discovering what makes each child unique.

Every child has a strength. Every child has curiosity. Every child has something important to contribute.

Our job is to find that genius, nurture it, and help each child become the very best version of themselves.

That means challenging our students academically while also making sure they feel safe, seen, valued, and inspired.

Because education is about so much more than academics. We want our students to become compassionate, resilient, creative, thoughtful, and purpose-driven young people who care about others and the world around them.

As we begin another school year, I am filled with excitement for all that lies ahead, the discoveries, the challenges, the friendships, the laughter, and those wonderful moments when a child's eyes light up because they suddenly understand, create, or discover something new.

And, although we miss our graduates so much, they will always be a part of the Plato family. It makes us incredibly happy to announce that they are excelling and happy at their respective high schools. Watching them take these next steps in their journeys is one of the great rewards of what we do.

On behalf of our entire administrative team, Filisa, Anna, Kathleen, and me, we welcome all of you for another wonderful year. We are so grateful to our incredible teachers for bringing their hearts and creativity to their classrooms every day, and to our families for trusting us with what matters most.

And to our students: be curious. Be brave. Be kind. Ask questions. Make mistakes. Try new things. And never be afraid to let your own genius shine.
