  • Plato Academy’s educational philosophy emphasizes holistic learning, encouraging students to develop deeper understanding through hands-on experiences and active engagement. Service learning is central to the program, fostering knowledge, skills, and character from an early age. Deeply committed to both local and global communities, the school instills values of empathy, service, and social responsibility. Through community service projects, global awareness initiatives, and outreach to those in need, students are empowered to make a meaningful and positive impact on the world.

Inspired by Plato, the great philosopher who viewed education as a lifelong pursuit and a continuous search for truth within a free and democratic society, Plato Academy embraces learning as both rigorous and transformative. The school strives to provide students with a strong foundation for academic excellence, the development of creative and individual potential, and—most importantly—the cultivation of critical thinking skills.

As a classical Hellenic institution, Plato Academy proudly upholds its legacy of academic rigor while promoting Philotimo, the love of living an honorable and purposeful life. Recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education, Plato Academy remains steadfast in its commitment to its founding principles and to educating thoughtful, engaged, and ethical citizens.

    MORE ABOUT PHILOTIMO…

Philotimo (Φιλότιμο) describes a way of life and a moral duty to do what is right. Often translated as “a friend of honor,” it also encompasses dignity, pride, sacrifice, and respect. Philotimo calls for selfless service—doing for others without expectation of reward—and for striving toward personal excellence as an obligation to one’s heritage and legacy.

At Plato Academy, Philotimo is nurtured in every classroom. As a result, our school community is grounded in mutual respect, integrity, and empathy. Students develop an awareness of the broader community and the needs of others, inspiring them to initiate service projects that create meaningful impact. Through this understanding, students learn that kindness as a way of life leads to becoming thoughtful, responsible, and benevolent citizens of the world.
